Ron Lancaster

Lancaster calls impressive sack totals overrated - ``I'm not a sack person and I never have been,'' says the Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach. ``I think they're overrated. ``We gave up seven sacks all year, Calgary gave up 59 - and we're both here.(Grey Cup) That tells you about sacks.'' (1999)

Ron Lancaster on re-hiring fired ticats coach Don Sutherin. "I would say in all the firings of football and hockey coaches and baseball managers -- and there's been a million of them -- that probably one per cent of the time the guy deserved to be fired," Lancaster says. "In 99 per cent of the cases, sometimes you don't have the players, sometimes it's injuries,  and sometimes it's because you just don't win. Don is qualified and I believe in him. So what if he got fired by the Tiger-Cats? He's forgotten more than a lot of people will ever know." (1999)

"Don't retire if you don't want to and don't let anyone talk you out of it. If you think it's time it's your decision, not anyone else's." -- Hamilton coach Ron Lancaster, on what advice he gave to veteran Montreal quarterback Tracy Ham after the Alouettes' crushing Eastern Division final loss. (1999)

When asked the question on everybody's mind this week, Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach Ron Lancaster confirmed he has given his players the green light to have sex the night before the Grey Cup game. "I don't mind, if their wives don't mind," laughed Lancaster. (1999)

Danny McManus may be the most even-keeled competitor in pro sports today. Expressionless through good times and bad, the veteran pivot is darn near impossible to read says coach Ron Lancaster. "With Danny, it's hard to tell what day it is," said Lancaster. "I asked him how he was doing and he said 'fine.' I asked him if he need anything and he said 'no'. I didn't know what else to say to him." (1999)
